Given the acute shortage of healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19 and numerous inquiries from citizens, on February 7, 2022, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with, developed and launched an online system for registering volunteers to help combat the coronavirus infection. Anyone wishing to volunteer and support the health services can express their interest on the National Health Information System portal at https://www.his.bg/ or on the unified information portal https://coronavirus.bg/.

Volunteers need to fill in their personal details and provide a contact for feedback. The system allows volunteers to describe their skills and experience, which will help regional health inspections direct them to the healthcare facilities most in need of staff. Volunteers have the option to choose the healthcare facility where they would like to help.

All applications are processed entirely electronically, and each party is notified via email when the status of the applications changes and when a contract is concluded.
