Nearly 140 million electronic examinations have been registered in the National Health Information System (NHIS) since its launch. On average, over 215,000 examinations are registered daily, mostly in general medicine, cardiology, and pediatrics, according to data from the system. The analysis shows that most frequent reasons for examinations are hypertensive heart disease, acute upper respiratory infections, and viral infections.
To facilitate health authorities and patients, Information Services has developed a special Statistical Reports section on his.bg website with detailed data recorded by medical professionals in NHIS, accessible to all individuals and legal entities. The category Healthcare professional registry data includes information on the total number of doctors, dentists, pharmacists in the country, number of general practitioners, those with specialty, etc. The categories Examinations, Prescriptions and Medications, Referrals, and Immunizations data can be viewed and compared by year. The information covers the period from 2021 to present.
"The statistical reports on NHIS website enables health authorities to conduct detailed analyses of population morbidity, early diagnosis, and prevention of chronic and non-infectious diseases," stated Boris Kostadinov, Director of Software Integration at Information Services. According to him, the information allows patients to control healthcare system and protect it from abuse. "All this data is stored and processed so that the available health information can be effectively used by patients, doctors, as well as representatives of state administration and businesses," Kostadinov added.
The data shows that total number of electronic health documents recorded in the NHIS is nearly 512 million. The number of electronic prescriptions exceeded 78 million since the system's launch, e-referrals are over 77 million, and recorded test results exceed 68 million. According to Kostadinov, the new section on NHIS website is next step towards achieving maximum transparency, publicity, and traceability not only of data related to electronic healthcare but of the entire health sector in the country. The reports published in the Statistical Reports section will be regularly updated.
